Background

Like many of us, FonSquare's founders and employees were scattered across the world and used an assortment of free communications tools like Skype and GMail to keep in touch. When they wanted to communicate, collaborate and share information they discovered that existing products were all either too expensive or too complicated (or both). As accomplished software designers, they knew there had to be a better way to communicate, collaborate and share content. And so FonSquare was born.

 

FonSquare's founders realized that their frustrations with other communication, collaboration software presented them with a compelling market opportunity. Here was a chance to make the world a smaller place - by creating a simple, free service (or nearly free!) that lets everyone everywhere to communicate using rich media in real time. And not only would FonSquare be easy to use, it would also be free (nearly!) so web based communication and collaboration tools could be democratized and made available to everyone.

 

No downloads Hard work to "Just works." Enabling people around the world to show pictures, PPTs, PDFs, screens, even video as part of their conversations with no desktop client (like Skype or Outlook) is technically very complicated and often at the mercy of the internet connection speed or the power of the CPU. Undaunted, FonSquare invested more than 15 man-years of engineering development into making complex web based communication and collaboration simply work.
